Principal’s Message – June 2nd
Dear Churchill Community,
I can hardly believe we just said good bye to another year. We had an awesome last few days here at Churchill. On Wednesday we said farewell to the sixth grade class of 2017. They are ready to soar with the Eagles down at Eisenhower. At our last assembly today our sixth graders shared a video they created giving their advice for success and sharing memories of their time here at Churchill. Also during our assembly our choir entertained us, we celebrated our academic progress, and recognized students for their involvement in the many clubs offered here at our building. Lastly our students honored and thanked Mrs. Sekera for her many years of service here at our school. The students shared that any time they come to the office she is always willing to help and answers and questions they might have. We ended our day with our traditional “clap out” for our sixth graders who truly were sad to see the day end. It was a very memorable day!
Students know that their job here is “to learn” and to do this they need to set goals for success. They are committed to setting these goals because the “goals you set” are “goals you get” and that if you don’t set them, “you don’t get them.” Their hard work pays off and we ask them to give 100% effort each day. We teach students about having good character, showing integrity, taking responsibility and keeping a positive mindset. This has just become the “Churchill” way and I look forward to “staying tuned” to the see the continued success of our staff and students!
This will be my last Churchill News. I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish all of you well. I have absolutely enjoyed being part of this incredible team over the past eight years! It has been my joy to get to know the community, staff, and students here. It has been so exciting to enroll a younger sibling, walk around outside and see so many familiar faces, walk out to my car and hear “Hello Mrs. Hopkins!”, or get those visits from our Churchill Alumni! Many thanks to so many of you who shared their well wishes with me, a special thanks to our 5th and 6th graders who created a farewell video that they surprised me with at our assembly, to all of our students who seemed to find a special way to say farewell and good luck, and to all of the staff and parents who truly made these last day here memorable! Thanks for these memories. I will treasure them!
I am excited to be starting a new adventure as a Director of Special Education. I have appreciated your support, kindness, and caring over the past eight years. I wish you all the very best! I am very confident you are in good hands with Mr. Kern.
Report Cards Online June 5 Churchill parents/guardians will be able to view their child’s report cards online this semester on June 5, more than a week before the hard copy report cards are mailed on June 14. District 54 is piloting the online report card in an effort to share information in a timelier manner and to become more environmentally friendly by not printing report cards for parents who prefer the online version.
I want to ensure that all of our parents have access to this early viewing of the report card, so I highly encourage you to sign up for the District 54 Infinite Campus Parent/Student Portal before June 5. The portal is a website and app where parents and guardians can view their children’s grades, assignments, immunizations, test scores, demographic information and now report cards.
If you have not previously logged on to the portal, contact our front office at 847-357-6200 for instructions on how to obtain a secure Campus Portal Activation Key. If you have already created an account, to view the report card on June 5 you must first log in to the account from a computer (the report card will not be accessible in the app). Click on the Report Card link on the left side of your screen. This link will take you to another page, where you will be asked to log in again for security reasons. After logging in, you will see the report card files for all of your children. Click on any of the report cards to download the pdf file.
This year, on June 14, we plan to mail a report card to each home. Next year, we will only be making hard copies available for families who are unable to access the report cards online.
Focus on the D54 Foundation Golf Outing Join the District 54 Education Foundation for our 20th annual golf outing on June 12 and make a difference in the life of a child! This outing at the Schaumburg Golf Club is the Foundation’s largest fundraising event. All proceeds support the Food 4 Thought breakfast program, STEM after-school clubs and grants for students from financially struggling households. This year we were able to award nearly $35,000 in grants for 330 students to participate in summer programs and classes! Please consider supporting District 54 children by becoming an event sponsor or golfing. We are also looking for items for our silent auction, as well as gift cards from local businesses to award as prizes. Visit http://d54foundation.com/events/golf to sponsor, register or for more information.
Boomers game Tonight You can also support the Foundation by attending the Schaumburg Boomers game on Friday, June 2. Tickets cost $11 and include free parking and post-game fireworks. Children are invited to run the bases at the end of the game. For each ticket sold, $5 will be donated to the Foundation. The Addams Junior High School chorus will perform the National Anthem before the game.
