#ChurchillPride – September 22, 2108
Have you ever been in a store and everyone around you was speaking in another language. You couldn’t understand anything that they were saying? This is something that so many of students and families experience each day. This week Churchill Kindergarten, First and Second grade students were treated to an amazing assembly. Anne Sibley O’Brien, author of the book I’m new here! came to Churchill to share with our students her personal experiences which inspire the books that she creates, as well as how she completes the writing and illustration processes. I am confident that this powerful presentation has inspired some of our students to write their own books.
Speaking of whole-child student success, the initial lessons embedded within our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum are focused on establishing a positive culture and climate in the classroom. There is a great way to connect home and school through the attached Home School Connection. We are truly supporting the whole child through these SEL lessons and the teaching practices staff have included across the day.
Have a great week!

Parking on Side Streets
We would like to thank you for ensuring Churchill student safety during drop off and pick up by parking in designated locations in front of the school and on the side streets. However, we have noticed that on the side streets behind the school cars are starting to park on the marked crosswalks. For the safety of our students please do not park on the crosswalks or in front of neighbor driveways. As you know our goal at the end of the day is to get all of our students safely home. It is also a goal of mine to support our community with these reminders so that you do not find yourself getting a citation from the local Police Department. Thank you for helping us to establish safe habits to ensure that we achieve both of these goals.
Hot Lunch Day Switch
Due to a family event Dairy Queen has asked to change our hot lunch date. Please note that our first hot lunch will be on Monday, September 24th, instead of Thursday September 27th. If there is any problem with your child receiving lunch on the rescheduled date, please email Jillian Carr at IRON042283@nullgmail.com.
Thank you for your understanding.
Clubs Registration forms for students in first through sixth grades were sent home with students on Thursday. If interested, please make sure that your child returns the form by next Tuesday. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that a child will get their first choice. Please make sure that they list alternate options so that we can ensure that they get into a club.
Attention Churchill families: Does your child enjoy art, music and dance or have an interest in writing, producing films and taking photos? Then join us in unleashing your inner artist with PTA Reflections! This year’s theme, “Heroes Around Me,” calls for your own unique interpretation through the arts. Submissions guidelines and entry forms are available by going to the website or paper copies will be available in the office. All submissions are due October 31, 2018 to your child’s teacher. Student’s artwork will be evaluated by artists and can advance to local, state and national levels. Prizes and scholarships available for top works of art. Please contact Victoria Pingul at VLS312@nullcomcast.net with any questions.
