#ChurchillPride – November 12, 2018
Good Morning Churchill Community,
It was so nice to see so many moms, aunts, close family friends at this years PTA sponsored Moms and Muffins event. Hearing the excitement and laughter throughout the gym was a great reminder of just how important this event is for our students. Creating opportunities for families to spend some additional time together is such a wonderful way to start your day! Thank you for attending and we look forward to the next one!

Pajamas for Troops Day
Join the nationwide Dress Down for Troops Day and help us support military families. Your donations will help the GI GO Fund organization support vets in finding housing, employment, and health care.
Winston Churchill School is participating in this national donation made to the Troops and their families by collecting funds on November 12th in your homeroom class.
Wear your comfy pajamas tomorrow (Monday) and show support for our troops!
If your PJs have some red, white and blue colors even better!
Students will make their donation in their homeroom. Students can make their donation with loose change. We are asking adults to donate $5 to participate. Help Winston Churchill meet our goal fo $300!
End of Trimester and Report Cards
The first trimester ended on Friday, November 9, 2018. Everyone who has a parent portal account will be able to view his or her child’s report card online by November 21, 2018. All parents and guardians who have not previously created a portal account but have supplied District 54 with an email address should have received an email with a direct link to sign up for the portal. If you do not receive an email but would like to create a portal account, please contact our office. If you are unable to access the parent portal and require a paper copy of your student’s report card, please contact our office.
WIth the end of each trimester this is a great time to pause and reflect about the work that has happened. At Churchill, we recognize the importance of celebrating the victories, even the small ones. Please take some time this week to talk with your child about this past trimester. Feel free to use some of these questions in your conversation:
- What are you most proud of this trimester?
- How are you different now than you were in August?
- What is one thing you are excited about coming up in the second trimester?
- How can I (the parent) help you be successful this trimester?
- What goals are you setting for yourself this trimester?
Starting November 15, 2018, all teachers, parents, guardians and students across Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey: Organizing Schools for Improvement. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on important elements of school effectiveness and help us guide school improvement. Please see the attached letter for more information about participation in the Survey within District 54. 5Essentials Parent Survey letter 10-18.doc
Mindful Meditation – November 14
As part of our ongoing focus on student wellness, we invite parents and their children to join us in learning how to use the power of something super simple – your breath – to improve concentration, reduce stress, improve quality of sleep and help you handle your response (both emotional and physical) to outside circumstances and situations. Please bring your own yoga mat or a towel to sit on during meditation. This event will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on November 14, 2018, at the District 54 Professional Learning Center, 522 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg. Mindful Meditation Flyer
