#ChurchillPride – July 8, 2019

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On behalf of the entire staff at Winston Churchill Elementary School, we would like to extend a warm welcome to you and your family as we prepare for the 2019-20 school year.  Last year was successful by many measures, and we look forward to continuing to provide your child with an engaging learning experience in a supportive environment. A great school is characterized by a dedicated and talented staff, hard-working students, and supportive families.  At Churchill, we are fortunate to have these elements working collaboratively for the success of our students.

Your child’s class placement for the upcoming school year will be emailed home on August 9th. Please note, our staff has worked diligently to place every child in an environment that best suits his/her learning needs.

Please mark your calendars for Churchill’s Back to School Event on Thursday, August 15th from 5:00–6:30 pm. This is an exciting opportunity for parents and students to meet their teacher, drop off school supplies, and meet new families.

The first day of school is Monday, August 19th for all students in Grades 1-6.  The first day of school for Kindergarten students will be Monday, August 26th.  When students arrive on the first day of school, the students riding a bus will be walking in through the front doors and walkers will line up on the blacktop in the back of the building.  Kindergarten and 1st grade students will line up and come in through door #14, 2nd grade students will walk in through door #15, 3rd and 4th grade students will walk in through door #11, and 5th and 6th grade students will come in through door #12.  Classroom teachers will be there to greet students and walk them in to school.  In case of rain, students will still enter through their assigned door early at 8:25 a.m.

To ensure the safety of our students at arrival and dismissal, the parking lot will be closed from 8:20–8:40 a.m., or until all busses have left, and again during dismissal between 2:55–3:10pm.  Students should not arrive to school any earlier than 8:25am because there will not be adult supervision until that time.

It is important to notify the school office, as well as your child’s teacher, of permanent daycare arrangements.  This information must be put in writing by the first day of school, and must be updated if your childcare arrangements change throughout the school year.  We want to have a clear understanding of where our students are going at the end of the day to help ensure their safety.
