#ChurchillPride – November 10, 2019

Dear Churchill Community,

Whole School Picture of Staff and Students in the shape of a five and a four. This year Churchill Elementary School is celebrating our 54th birthday! We took time this week to enjoy a special dance party on the 54th day of school, as well as taking the picture that you see above. Thank you to Mr. Johnson and his 6th grade math class for creating a plan and organizing the staff and students for the picture.

Don’t forget that tomorrow (Monday) we will be celebrating Veteran’s Day by wearing Red, White, and Blue Day.

Enjoy the week!

Sincerely,

Steve Kern, Principal Carol Novak, Assistant Principal

Winter is here!

Is your child dressed for the weather?  Sometimes kids like to scoot out of the door in the morning without gloves, hats and boots.  With snowy and cold weather so quickly upon us, please make sure that your child has a warm coat, gloves and hat on them when they leave for school.  Snow pants and boots are needed if your child wants to play in the snow. Otherwise, students remain on the blacktop that is cleared of snow. When the wind chill index reaches below zero degrees, or when precipitation causes outdoor activities to be extremely uncomfortable, recess is held indoors.  So remember to help your child dress for the cold winter weather.

Please make sure that you have activated your Parent Portal account prior to the 20th so that you can access your child’s report card.

Severe Weather Procedures

In order to help parents better prepare for the severe cold weather and snow that we often get during winters in our community I wanted to share with you the District 54 Severe Cold Weather Response Plan. District 54 makes every effort to keep our schools open and operational, however sometimes circumstances beyond our control dictate the need to close schools. Please click on this link to read more about our District 54 Severe Weather Response Plan.

Illinois Report Card

The Illinois State Board of Education annually releases school report cards that show how each school, each district and the state is performing on a wide range of educational goals. The 2019 report card information posted on the state’s website at illinoisreportcard.com and on the District 54 website at sd54.org/schoolreportcards.

The illinoisreportcard.com website contains results from the Illinois Assessment of Readiness, as well as information about student and teacher demographics, enrollment and financial information. The report card also includes results from the 5Essentials survey, which was given to students in grades 6 through 8, certified staff and parents last year. If you do not have access to the Internet or prefer to receive a hard copy, you may call the school at 847-357-6300.

5 Essentials Survey

Once again we are reaching out to our families and asking you to participate in the annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey to provide us with your perspective and help guide our school improvement efforts. The parent survey will be available online through Feb. 14, 2020, at https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois.
