Dear Churchill Community,

It was so wonderful to connect with all of our families during conferences.  Our conferences are always a celebration on so many levels.  Even though our meetings were held over Zoom, it still provided the opportunity for our children to see firsthand that all the important adults in their lives work together to support them each and every day.  We want to personally thank you again for collaborating with us.  We love working with the Churchill community and feel blessed to spend our days with your children.

Sincerely,

Steve Kern and Christi Sosin

Student Safety (Arrival and Dismissal)

As we have started to bring back students to school 5 days a week it is important that we review some safety procedures

  • No Dogs on Property: Although we love dogs, they can sometimes get scared and act in an unanticipated way. For the safety of our community, dogs (small or large) are not allowed on school property.  Thank you for your support!
  • Cars Parked on Side Streets: Please make sure that you are only parking in legal parking places. Many parents and neighbors have complained about cars blocking driveways and parking in marked “No Parking / Stopping” sections. We know that there is still a large amount of snow impacting parking in some areas. Please remember that it is critical for cars to be parked such that school buses and ambulances can easily pass down the street.
  • Arrival: For the safety of our students children may not arrive at school prior to 8:30 a.m. Students may not arrive on the playground area until 8:30.

Masks for Students attending school In-Person

In order to keep staff and students in the school healthy, allowing us to keep our school open, we need to ensure that all students, staff, and anyone else coming onto school property is following our safety mitigations.

  • Everyone is required to wear a mask while in our schools and/or on our school grounds, including the playground.
  • The masks must completely cover your mouth and nose while fitting snugly against the side of the face.
  • Bandanas, neck gaiters, and face masks with exhalation valves or vents are not acceptable alternatives to face masks. Students coming to school wearing one of these masks will have to change to a new mask.

In-Person Student Daily Covid Screener

  • The electronic daily covid screener must be completed by 8:00 a.m.
  • If your child has any of the symptoms they MUST mark the symptom “Yes” and your child will need to stay home. Someone from the school will call to confirm the symptoms and assign the appropriate quarantine date.
  • Please refer to the District 54 Exclusion Chart on our website for more information about when individuals are allowed to return to school. org/reopeningD54

Technology Reminder

  • Please remember that in person learners MUST come to school everyday with their devices.
  • It is important that they attend school, ready to learn with a fully charged device.
  • If your child forgets their Chromebook or IPad we will call home asking you to bring their device to school, as we do not house additional loaner devices here in the building.
  • Please help your child to remember his/her device, headphones as well as their charger each day.

Parent Resource Video for Kindergarten, First and Second Grade (Virtual Students)

Thank you again to all of our parents for your partnership as we work together to support our students who are at home learning via Zoom. Our primary grade teachers put together a video that we hope will be helpful for you as you are looking at systems that we use to encourage our children’s independence. Please know that at times it is important for children to “productively struggle.” Simply put this means that at times it is ok for a child to not immediately have the answer. Through strategic prompting we are able to scaffold our instruction so that students feel successful. We build their confidence by helping them to figure out the answers on their own.

We hope that you find this video helpful. Please reach out to any of us if you have questions that we might be able to answer. Link to Video
