iPads and Chromebooks Being Sent Home

Beginning on Monday, January 27, students in kindergarten through second grade will begin to bring their iPads home each day through the winter season.  K-2 students will also bring home a charger. The charger may remain at home.  Students are to bring their iPads back to school each day, charged.  There will not be any assignments or homework issued on K-2 iPads unless we reach an E-Learning Day as part of our D54 winter weather response plan.

Chromebooks will continue to come home daily with students.  Students should continue to bring them to school each day, charged.

As a reminder, iPads and Chromebooks are instructional devices and should only be used to access the instructional apps that are installed. As stated in the Instructional Device Agreement, parents/guardians are responsible for monitoring home internet access.

District 54 eLearning Plan

Now that winter has arrived, we wanted to remind you about District 54’s eLearning plan. Should an emergency day be needed, the first two closures will be traditional school cancellations. Should additional cancellations be necessary, District 54 will have up to three eLearning days, ensuring the last day of school occurs no later than Friday, May 30, 2025.

Should a school cancellation occur, families will be notified as usual and the notification will indicate whether it is a traditional closing or eLearning day.

During an eLearning day, students in grades K-8 will utilize their District 54 devices to access activities aligned with their grade level curriculum. These activities will be asynchronous, meaning students are not live on Zoom with their teachers. Students will have five days to complete these activities.

Junior high students can access activities by 8:30 a.m. and elementary by 9:00 a.m. on the identified eLearning Day.  For any questions, please contact your child’s building principal or visit sd54.org/district-54-e-learning-plan
